Three people are facing charges in connection with a series of break and enters.
Calgary police say they were called to the 300 block of Sudbury Avenue S.W. on Tuesday morning at about 9 a.m. in response to reports of two suspicious vehicles parked on the street. They found three people sleeping inside a Mercedes ML350, and a Cadillac Escalade parked nearby. Both vehicles had been reported stolen earlier in the morning.
Officers found drugs and property stolen from multiple break and enters inside the Mercedes.
The suspects have been charged in relation to five break and enters, dating back to Sept. 5, in the Patterson, Strathcona Park, and Coach Hill areas.
“In all these cases it is alleged that offenders prowled unlocked vehicles looking for garage door openers or located unsecure garage doors,” Calgary police said in a news release.
“Once access was gained to the attached garage, the offenders made their way into the home through unlocked doors, found vehicle keys and other valuables, and left in the victim’s vehicle all while the victims were asleep.”
Justine Dannewald-Stern, 18, and Savannah Schmitke, 20, have each been charged with one count of break and enter, possession of break and enter tools, possession of cocaine and possession of methamphetamine.
